PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS

Thank you for providing your input on the proposed bus route changes throughout the Wichita area.

The proposed changes to Wichita Transit aims to optimize service by streamlining routes, improving access to destinations, upgrading frequencies on select routes, and establishing a foundation for future growth.

THE HUB

A New Transit Center for Our Growing Community

The City of Wichita is proud to announce The Hub, a modern, multimodal transit center that will serve as the new central terminal for Wichita Transit buses and shuttles. Located at 207 S. Sycamore in the Delano neighborhood, just west of Equity Bank Park (former Riverfront Stadium),
The Hub will replace the current downtown transit facility at Topeka and William.

Designed to improve connectivity, accessibility, and rider experience, The Hub will be a welcoming hub for commuters, visitors, and residents alike. The facility will accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists, scooter users, drivers, ride-share services, and transit riders, reflecting Wichita’s commitment to safe and efficient transportation options for all.

Construction on The Hub began in October 2024 following approval of project funding and design phases, and is expected to be completed in summer 2026. The project includes local and federal investment to support Wichita’s long-term transportation goals.

ROUTE RENAMES

All of bus routes will transition from numbers to names

Staff proposes updating route names from “numbers” to “area-based names” to make the transit system easier to understand, more accessible, and more intuitive for riders.

Area-based route names clearly show where a route goes by referencing well-known neighborhoods, corridors, or destinations, helping riders quickly identify the service they need, especially new riders, visitors, and occasional users. This change improves accessibility, reduces confusion, and makes it easier to follow maps, signs, and service announcements.
